That really doesn’t shock me because I’m usually not a fan of love triangles in the first place. This book was really on the world-building, long dialogues and character descriptions.
In addition to Adelice though, the villains in this story were mediocre at best. I feel as if so much of the beginning could have just been cut out and if the second half of this was better edited, it would have been a much better story. And let’s face it, writing characters in fedoras and pin curls is fun. Why are you so SEXY?
It’s so nice to have pretty things to wear everyday’ WHY!? The supporting characters aren’t much better – their reactions felt illogical and unrealistic to me; especially the villains. The concept and storyline was very different indeed. Such a character twist is not a beautiful thing to behold.

Usually when there is love triangles that are involved I get annoyed with the girl that is in between because they start whining over each boy like “omg I like him, but I love him. Not happy at all. The other Spinsters are hardly touched upon, so we have an anonymous herd of girls whom are indistinguishable from each other and are all portrayed en mass as shallow and materialistic.
I haven’t had a dystopian novel wow me since What’s Left of Me by Kat Zhang, and I was hoping this one would change that. A loom, as I am able to imagine it, is – however large an industrial one gets to be – a device that produces something two-dimensional.

Five stars for a stunningly imaginative new world, three stars for a predictable love-triangle, making four stars. Have stirrings of sexual desire every time you see a man? But the main character, Adelice, has parents with wisdom and verve, who constantly remind their daughter not to take anything at alibn value and never to forget who she is and where she comes from. I know the cover is pretty, but that’s about it. The only important women in this book are Adelice and the women who torment her. If anything, I found it to be formulaic and extremely typical, which was all rather disappointing.
