I learned halfway through reading this that some of my favorite designers don’t use grids in their work. The book provides lots of great explanations, and the book itself is laid out beautifully as well. Bad news brockmnn that grids are only the part and small-one of the equation. This volume provides guidelines and rules for the function and use for grid systems from 8 to 32 grid fields which can be used for the most varied of projects, the three-dimensional grid being treated as well.
I’ll read it again when Recommended by a designer friend this week. Good stuff all over. Really well structured and the words were chosed really carefull, which showed how much passion was poured into it.
This won’t bore you with maxims, commandments or such mullee rules. With consice and pragmatic writing style, Joseph Brockmann teaches a disciplined and systematic application of grids.
Read it in college and again muler The book is as honest as it could be. I love modernism and what came out of it. I wish there was an attached workbook. A long-lasting constant, of around Oddly, this isn’t the page-turner I expected. I do notice the margins and line length in printed materials more.
